Walter J. McHugh focuses his practice on personal injury cases and divorce litigation. He has secured verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million on numerous catastrophic injury and misfiled prescription drug cases and handled high-profile divorce matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Mr. McHugh began his career as law clerk to the Honorable Anthony DeFino of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia. He went on to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia. Judge DeFino taught him the craft of lawyering; the District Attorney’s Office turned him into a skilled trial lawyer.

Currently, Mr. McHugh serves as Chair of the Domestic Relations Procedural Rules Committee, which advises the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on matters related to the procedural rules governing actions for divorce, support, custody, paternity and protection from abuse.

In 2013 and 2014, Mr. McHugh was selected for the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers, based on peer nominations and third-party research. He holds the highest (AV) rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. McHugh has been named a Super Lawyer every year since 2005.

Mr. McHugh is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In handling complex cases, he has been admitted in multiple jurisdictions, including U.S. district courts in Texas and Delaware as well as Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from LaSalle University, Mr. McHugh earned a J.D. from Widener University School of Law.
