The alleged shooter in the May 9 double murders on South Orchard Street murders and the man prosecutors say arranged the Boise hit are now both represented by two of Philadelphia’s most prominent defense attorneys.

Brian McMonagle has been hired to represent Anthony J. Robins Jr., 34, of Fremont, Calif. Robins is accused of hiring alleged gunman John C. Douglas and allegedly instructing him to kill Travontae Calloway, 27, and Elliott Bailey, 28.

In 2011, McMonagle represented Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua when the former leader of the Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia was questioned about his handling of sex abuse allegations against local priests. That same year, he represented former Pennsylvania House Speaker John Perzel, who later pleaded guilty to charges of using taxpayer money to finance computer programs meant to help Republicans in their election efforts.
